DIY Wind Turbine-The Cost of Wind Energy

DIY wind turbines are used to utilize the energy of the wind and a lot of work has been done to make them more affordable. However, buying a wind energy system still requires a large investment, but there is a way in which you can cut costs significantly.

This technique to cut costs involves making your own wind energy turbine. Wind turbines are available in large and small sizes. Building your own turbine means that you will be able to control costs to a certain extent.

Wind energy systems have different components like a generator, rotating shaft, gearbox, mounting tower, etc. An understanding of how to put together the whole system is necessary for building your own turbine wind generator but this type of information is freely available online now.

DIY wind turbine manuals can help you with the entire process. These manuals contain instructions and diagrams that explain things in a step by step manner so that you do everything correctly. Many do it yourself guides and manuals are available online and the basic components can be purchased at most hardware stores.

Building your own turbine is a very practical way of providing electrical energy for your house. Small wind energy turbines can be used to power household appliances and lighting.

You have the choice to either choose a horizontal-axis wind turbine or a vertical-axis. In horizontal-axis turbines the blades are facing the wind direction, while in vertical they can be in different directions. Horizontal-axis wind turbines are the most commonly used.

The vertical-axis turbines are more suitable in places where wind direction can vary frequently.

You can setup your own wind energy system for as low as $200.  A DIY wind turbine is economical and clean and will payback the initial investment in about 3 years.

Clearly there is a huge benefit to the environment also and you can play your part in reducing environmental pollution.

Make Your Own Solar Panel Kits Can Save Big Bucks on Solar Panel Cost!

When I hear the word ‘kit’, I invariably think about putting toys together for my Children, when the box said “some assembly needed” I used to just cringe, when I read it! The instructions were invariably incorrect! Or, possibly it was just my interpreting of them. As the years went on, I got pretty good at putting things together. These days, just about everything that you buy involves some sort of fabrication. Now, you can even put home solar panel kits together, and even make them from scratch!

When it comes to solar energy panels for your home, just a few years ago, it was only a fleeting thought, because solar panel cost was just too high! Nowadays, however, there are many more options available. Its like everything else. Supply and demand causes the selection that’s available, and with always raising electric cost, and the economy making all of us take a closer look at expenses. There are more and more effective options available.

Today, there are some big name companies offering solar kits, that you can build in your garage. Just to name a few, BP and general Electric are now in the Solar Power game. If you decide to go the kit route, make sure you do business with a reputable company. Just a few pointers to look for;

* How long has the company been in business?
* How long have they been not only in the solar business, but how long have they been producing kits?
* What is the warranty? Who do you have to call for service?
* What all is warranted? Get a copy of their warranty, and check out the fine print.
* How clear are the directions?
* Does the kit have everything you need, or will there be surprises.
* Who do you call if you need help?
* How much electric will this system produce?

These are just some of the basic questions that you will need answers to. One more important one, is how much does it cost? I would opt for great answers to all of the above questions and pay a few dollars more, but thats just me. I experienced the old adage penny wise and pound foolish a long time ago.

Theres another option available too! You can build your own home solar energy system! Yep, thats what I said, build your own solar panels! Thats the route Ive taken, and my reasoning is simple. I can build it at my own pace. I can start small and since I know how to build them, I can add on to my system, when I can afford it. No big cash outlay!

I am a jack of all trades, as they say! I have re-built or repaired everything that has to do with my home from plumbing to electrical. I just love to make things work. It’s always been my passion. I stared at a young age.. My father owned an appliance service company, so I had a good teacher. He taught me to install compressors, when I was fourteen.

Cost of Wind Turbines

In the 100 years or so since wind turbines were first used to produce electricity, they have seen many alterations, resulting in more effective and versatile units. Despite being superior in every measurable way, they’re also now more affordable than ever. Wind turbines generally fall into a few basic categories, each of which is intended to serve a specific purpose and will likely be more or less appropriate depending on the potential buyer’s needs.

Since they were introduced around 1930, large-scale commercial wind generators have improved in a number of ways. Enhanced blade design, more durable materials, and more efficient and reliable performance are some of the areas in which they’ve gotten better. In order to handle high winds consistently and thus generate a large amount of energy, these turbines are usually made from super-heavy duty materials.

As the strongest and most relentless winds are mostly in remote areas like shorelines, large-model wind turbines usually need to be located in these areas. Being “out of the way” like this means that it would be expensive to have to repair them all the time, so it’s a must that these units are especially reliable. Large-scale turbines often exceed 0,000 in price, which is due in large part to these factors.

Wind turbines for use in a residential environment are essentially scaled-down versions of those larger, commercial units. The most common problem encountered by the first generation of wind turbines for residential use was that they weren’t able to easily adjust to shifting wind patterns, which are especially common amid the buildings and other obstacles that are typical of residential settings.

Weight was also a problem for the first generation of residential-use wind turbines. It would usually be necessary to have a strong, purpose-built tower to support them. Ultimately, the drawbacks and costs were usually too much for many homeowners to really consider.

Micro turbines, the latest phase in the evolution of residential-use wind turbines, rectify the problems that plagued earlier versions. The main improvement with these turbines is their capacity to produce power from lower winds, which allows them to be used even without being mounted on towers. In some instances, it’s even possible to set up a micro turbine directly on your roof. These compact turbines are turning at all times, and this makes up for the fact that they don’t have the maximum power generating capacity of some of the larger models. With a price range of about 0 to ,000, these micro turbines are also relatively inexpensive and are well within the area in which the electrical bill savings they provide will almost immediately justify the investment

Wind turbines vary significantly in terms of their size and power, and the price tends to vary accordingly as well. By building a wind turbine yourself, you can bring the cost down even more. All you need are some common tools and the right instructions, and just about anyone can build a wind turbine, and get the lifelong savings that come with it.
