Eco features to install in your home

www.homebuildingshow.co.uk Discover the best eco features to install in your new home in this video from Homebuilding & Renovating’s eco-expert Tim Pullen. Transcript Tim Pullen People still come to me saying I want a wind turbine and in five years as an independent consultant Ive put in three. I dont know how many clients I have each year, probably seventy or eighty a year, and three of them have had the right conditions. Its really quite a rarity for a wind turbine. The next most popular is a heat pump. Generally a heat pump can be fitted for the vast majority of people, but what were actually doing there is actually starting at the wrong end. I was with a client the other day, on Tuesday, who wanted to generate all their electricity. When I went through their figures (it was a house in London), theyre actually consuming about five times the national average for electricity. Five times! Jason Orme Is this because its an old building? Tim Pullen Its an old building and entirely light with halogens, it has various other features which consume electricity. The heating is rubbish so theyre using an electric fan and halogen heaters to warm up rooms because theyve got very old fashioned radiators. So theyre eating up boat loads of electricity. So what weve got to do first, is get that under control. Jason Orme This is the belt and braces approach isnt it. Reduce your energy consumption and then you can think the generation. Tim Pullen Then invest in the generation. What were

N. Georgia Mtns Off-grid Solar Install 1 of 3

This is video 1 of 3 of an off-grid installation we did up in the North Georgia Mountains. In this video, the installation starts from the *very* beginning: from assessing parts, to installing the control panel, charge controller, inverter and batteries. Then, we install the racking and most of the panels. For the rest of the installation, be sure to see videos 2 and 3 in this series. The home is a passive solar house. It’s roof line is sloped and the rear is close to the ground. (This is why wildlife is able to get on the roof – namely a family of bears that live near by.) You won’t see the main house in these videos, only the roof and utility room b/c the construction of the home was in the process of being finished as we did the installation. Enjoy! Later, we will be installing a wind turbine on this same property. Once this is complete, we’ll post that video, too. www.CreativeSolarUSA.com If you have questions, please go to our web site and contact us through there. Thank you. =======================================

Introducing the Easy to Install GE GeoSpring Water Heater

Easy to install, easy to enjoy GE has taken extra steps to simplify the process for replacing a standard electric water heater with our new hybrid electric heat pump water heater. The GeoSpring hybrid electric heat pump model fits in a similar footprint as a standard 50-gallon electric water heater. Uses existing water and electrical connections to make water heater installation quick and easy. Designed for common indoor installation, including attic, closet, basement and garage. Since the water heater draws in air from the room to heat water, the room must be at least 10′ x 10′ x 7′ (700 cf) or larger. If the room is smaller, there must be a louvered door.

How To Install Harbor Freight Solar Panels Part 3

Fourteen Harbor Freight individual solar panels from their 45 Watt kits. They are mounted on 2×4 frames with seven panels each giving 210 Watts of power for all fourteen. In the next couple of weeks we’ll install the other 14 panels for a total of 420 Watts, which combined with the previous 1600 of solar gives me 2Kw of solar power. I also have 2Kw of wind power which I’m going to raise the tower to a total of 100 to 150 feet depending on cost. I expect the added height should produce 1Kw constant if not more.

How To Install Harbor Freight Solar Panels Part 4

Here are the last 14 panels installed for a total of 28 panels and 420w of solar going to the batteries. I wired the panels in strings of four panels in series, each panel is rated at 20v open circuit voltage so that is a total for 80v per string. Since I have 28 panels that is a total of seven strings in parallel. The Outback charge controller then converts it to 12v and charges the batteries with 95% efficiency which is pretty awesome. I still have room to add another 26 panels to this charge controller for a total of 800 watts.

Suntech – Unique Two in One PV Panel Design & Easy to Install Mounting Solution- buildaroo.com

SunTech introduced their Reliathon 270-watt module at this year’s Solar Power International. Wei-Tai, VP of Marketing for SunTech, spoke with the Buildaroo News Team about this products unique characteristics. Watch the video above to see the modules as well as a demonstration of SunTech’s innovative mounting system. Some unique characteristics include: self-aligning panels, integrated grounding, and wire management, as well as a new “Two-in-One” design, with two 36-cell regions featuring independent circuits that can create better output on fixed tilt systems in early morning and late afternoon. All module innovations result in far less labor time needed to install Reliathon systems as well as significant reductions in material costs. Array Technologies’ DuraTrack(TM) system was designed specifically for Suntech Reliathon, and makes use of two motors per MW AC versus the typical four motors per MW, further reducing the material costs of the system. The new Suntech Reliathon ground mount system perfectly matches Reliathon modules to deliver fixed tilt solutions at lower cost and greater profitability. Utility-grade Reliathon module warranty: The Reliathon module includes a 25-year utility-grade warranty offering an industry-leading 12-year limited product warranty (extended from 5 years) and a 25-year peak power performance warranty now based on annual degradation instead of 12 and 25-year step-downs. The new annual peak power performance warranty provides Reliathon

Trane Clean Effects Air Cleaner – Bad Install!

This is a Trane “Clean Effects” Electronic Air Cleaner. This HVAC company who clearly doesn’t believe in “Do the job right, or don’t do it at all” has done it again! This time they sold the customer a Trane Clean Effects with their new HVAC system. One problem though… you can’t get part of the filter out to clean it!!!

Geoclip install on a geothermal system Geo Clip water furnace

NJRenewableEnergy.com The GeoClip™ is used to position the u-bend pipes of a vertical heat exchanger at the borehole wall and is designed to separate the pipes as far apart as possible. By achieving these objectives, you have installed a vertical heat exchanger with the highest heat transfer rate possible for that location, pipe size, grouting material, borehole size and depth. Problems associated with a standard vertical heat exchanger installation: Low Thermal Conductivity Grout: Most state regulations require using a bentonite based grout to seal the borehole. This bentonite based backfill has a very low thermal conductivity (or low heat transfer rate). Because the u-bend pipes are embedded in this insulating material, a deeper borehole must be drilled to achieve the required energy exchange with the earth. U-bend Pipe Energy Interaction: In a standard installation, the u-bend pipes are typically close to each other or even touching each other within the borehole. When the u-bend pipes are close together, they interfere with each other’s ability to exchange energy with the surrounding soil. This effect also requires vertical heat exchanger depths to be longer than necessary.
